PIREP - Stark Avionics

Numerous people, I appreciate pireps from those of you with knowledge about shops you employ (good or bad) and like to spread my experience to the thought on others also. After a so-so experience during a recent avionics install, I discovered myself seeking an alternate avenue for your installation of a fresh transponder for ADS-B compliance. I called two local shops first. The price of one was high that I actually busted out laughing on the telephone as though I were in a comedy bar. He was apparently significantly less amused because i. I was telling the tale of my local quote to a friend with the airport and he recommended that I call John Stark at Stark Avionics for a quote. In doing my due diligence prior to calling John, I browsed Mooneyspace and BT for pireps for the shop. In doing this, I came across a truly terrible pirep on Stark Avionics. (Search in BT if you need to see it). This pirep caused me serious concern about whether or not to call Stark for the quote.

I posted a general query for recommendations on an avionics shop and received another recommendation for Stark from another MSer (Oldguy). He i spoke in reference to his exposure to Stark and I thought we would give John a trip using the two recommendations I from trusted sources. I was open with John regarding my concerns regarding the negative pirep on MS has I used to be gun shy in line with the previous experience. As they always say, there are 2 sides to every single story and John took his time and energy to explain his side in my experience much like me certain he will be willing to apply other people who wishes to call him in that regard. Our conversation shifted in the pirep to pricing. John and that i discussed different equipment options, what might be perfect for my needs/wants and also the predetermined fee installed price per option. We ultimately decided to install the Stratus ESGi for ADS-B in/out. John quoted me a soft price, but was in advance how the number could possibly be slightly higher if your tray was riveted in (as much Mooneys are). I went to the airport that night, took pictures and confirmed that my trays were along with screws and forwarded those pictures to John. John responded in an exceedingly timely manner and confirmed the predetermined fee price for the equipment and install on paper and now we scheduled the install date and pickup date. The plane was to be delivered the Sunday after Thanksgiving. John said however except time ready by Tuesday, however opted to schedule the pickup for Wednesday in the event that there was some snags as you go along.
